Sometimes everything feels pointless — school, friends, the future — like all the color has drained out of life. You might not even feel sad, just empty. That can be a sign that you’ve pushed yourself too hard for too long, and your brain is trying to protect you by “shutting down” for a while.

When you’re overloaded — physically or emotionally — your brain lowers its sensitivity to cope. That means joy and motivation disappear, even for things you usually love. This state is sometimes called burnout or emotional fatigue — and you can recover, but not by pushing harder.

Don’t judge yourself for feeling this way. It doesn’t mean you’re lazy or broken. It means you’ve been trying for too long without enough rest.

Alma’s tips:

Allow yourself to rest without guilt. Take small steps — go outside for a few minutes, take a shower, eat something, listen to music. When your body gets a chance to recharge, feelings slowly return. And talk to someone you trust, even if you don’t know what to say. You don’t need to have answers — you just need support. Sometimes the way back to caring isn’t through effort, but through gentleness.
