Egg freezing involves retrieving and freezing your eggs to use later in life. It may be relevant if you’re undergoing treatments that can affect fertility, such as cancer therapy, or if you want to preserve your chances of pregnancy for the future.
The process is similar to IVF: hormone medication stimulates several eggs to mature, they are collected in a short procedure, and the healthiest eggs are frozen at very low temperatures.
Egg freezing isn’t a guarantee of future pregnancy, but the chances are higher if the eggs are frozen at a younger age. In Sweden, it can be done for medical reasons through healthcare, or privately at your own cost.
Alma’s tips:
- Talk to a gynecologist if you’re considering fertility preservation.
- Think of egg freezing as an opportunity, not a guarantee.
