During weeks 27–29, the fetus grows steadily and begins to follow a more regular rhythm. This does not mean conscious sleep, but the body alternates between quieter and more active periods. Movements may become more noticeable, with stretches, gentle pushes, and occasional pressure against the uterine wall. These movements are often more recognizable when you rest or lie still.

Muscles continue to strengthen, and the body practices coordinating movements. The skin develops gradually and becomes less sensitive, while still soft and thin. The fetus practices breathing by drawing in amniotic fluid — a preparation for life outside the womb, even though the lungs are still developing.

For the pregnant person, the body may feel heavier, especially in the back, legs, and pelvis. The uterus grows upward toward the ribcage, which can sometimes make breathing feel shallower during activity or rest. Feeling tired or needing more breaks during the day is very common.

The belly may be more visible now, and movements can feel different — sometimes soft, sometimes stronger. It is normal for movement to change in both strength and shape as the fetus grows.

Alma’s tips 🌿

  • Rest when your body feels heavy — it is not laziness, but recovery.

  • Now you should feel movements every day, in the way that is normal for your baby.

  • Comfortable positions, especially for rest and sleep, can make a big difference.

  • Each day, your body is carrying, protecting, and preparing.
