Ovulation means that a mature egg is released from one of the ovaries. It usually happens about 12–16 days before your next period, though the timing can vary greatly between people and cycles.
As ovulation approaches, your body may show some signs. Vaginal discharge often becomes clear, stretchy, and similar to egg white — this helps sperm reach the egg. Some people feel a mild ache in the lower abdomen or notice a higher sex drive around this time. Others feel no symptoms at all, which is completely normal.
If you want to track ovulation, pharmacy kits are available that detect hormone changes in your urine. But many people conceive without ever noticing or testing for ovulation.
