In weeks 41–42, the baby is full term and physically complete. There are no major changes in form, but the baby continues to preserve energy and remain ready for life outside the womb. Movements may feel different than before, often as slow shifts, pressure, or rolling motions. Even though the type of movement changes, it should still follow the usual pattern for your baby.

The baby often lies more still, not because it is less active, but because there is less space. The body continues to practice simple movements and maintains its basic activity. The skin is fully developed, and the body carries the protection it needs for birth.

For the pregnant person, the body may now feel distinctly tired, heavier, and more limited in movement. The uterus reaches high under the ribcage, which can affect breathing and sleep, and the downward pressure may be more noticeable. This is the body’s way of concluding and preserving the work that has already been done.

Pregnancy is now in its most still phase. The body is no longer building or increasing change, but preserving, stabilizing, and awaiting completion. Much of this work continues, even when it is not noticeable from the outside.

Alma’s tips 🌿

  • Movements may feel calmer but should still be felt every day in the way that is normal for your baby.

  • It is common for the body to feel slower, and for sleep to come in shorter intervals at the end of pregnancy.

  • This is a stage where pregnancy is not building anything new, but preserving what is already complete.

  • A long ending does not mean an abnormal ending.
