Relaxin is a hormone present throughout pregnancy and continues to play a role during labour. It increases the flexibility of the pelvic joints and softens surrounding tissues, helping the baby move through the birth canal more easily. Relaxin also affects the ligaments, which may create a sensation of increased mobility or mild instability.

🌿 Alma’s tips

• Choose positions that feel supportive and gentle on your pelvis.

• If you feel ligament pulling, let your midwife know so positions can be adjusted.

• Follow your body’s instinct to change positions – relaxin assists the baby’s rotation.
