A planned cesarean section is a surgical birth performed when it is the safest option — for breech presentation, prior complications, medical conditions, or severe birth anxiety.

You arrive the same morning. Preparation includes discussions with the midwife, anesthesiologist, and obstetrician. In the operating theatre, your abdomen is cleaned, spinal anesthesia is given, and sensation is carefully checked before surgery begins.

You remain awake. You feel pressure and movement, but no pain. The baby is usually born within 5–10 minutes. Skin-to-skin contact is offered immediately if both you and the baby are stable. The remaining surgery takes about 30 minutes.

Afterward, you recover in a monitored area, and pain relief is carefully planned. Early mobilization begins within 24 hours.
