Growth restriction means the baby is not growing as expected. Causes may include placental function, blood flow, maternal health conditions, or factors related to the baby. It is often detected through fundal height measurements or ultrasound.

If IUGR is suspected, growth scans, amniotic fluid assessment, and Doppler studies monitor whether the baby receives enough oxygen and nutrients. Many pregnancies with IUGR progress safely with close monitoring.

You may notice changes in fetal movements. Reduced movements should always be checked. In some cases, earlier delivery is recommended if the baby shows signs of stress.

The diagnosis can be worrying, but you are not alone — your team will follow you closely.
