There are many ways to hold your baby during breastfeeding, and no single position works best for everyone. What matters most is that both you and your baby are comfortable and that your baby’s body is facing yours.

Common positions:

Side-lying: You lie on your side with your baby close — helpful for rest and night feeds.

Cradle hold: Your baby rests in your arm like a cradle.

Cross-cradle: You support your baby’s head with the opposite hand — great for early latching support.

Football/clutch hold: Your baby is positioned under your arm — useful after a C-section or with larger breasts.

Biological nurturing: You recline and let your baby find the breast with their natural reflexes.

Your body will often signal which position feels most sustainable.

🌿 Alma’s tips

• Make sure your baby’s tummy faces your tummy.

• Bring the baby to the breast — not the breast to the baby.

• If it hurts, adjust the position. Pain is a sign, not something to tolerate.
