Trichomoniasis is a parasitic STI spread through vaginal sex. It’s less common in Sweden but does occur, especially after travel or contact with new partners. Symptoms usually appear in girls as frothy, yellowish, or strong-smelling discharge. Boys often have mild or no symptoms.
The infection can also cause itching, burning when peeing, or irritation around the genitals. It’s diagnosed with a simple swab or urine test and treated with tablets.
Common signs:
Frothy or yellow discharge
Stronger odor
Itching or burning
Sometimes no symptoms
Alma’s tips:
If your discharge changes noticeably in smell or texture, come get tested. It’s easy to fix, and treatment works very well. And remember: this says nothing about who you are. It’s just an infection that spreads through sex. Condoms are the best protection against most sexually transmitted infections, but they cannot fully protect against infections spread through skin-to-skin contact such as HPV or herpes.
